The Royal Sanusi Family

Ok, now I wanna tell you a story, oh no, I mean a history. My family history. Since it is not a secret anymore maybe I want to reveal it. On my previous post I have written a story about my grandfather from my mother and this time I’m gonna tell you about my grandfather from my father.

My grandfather (alm. peace be upon him) was a welknown rich businessman. He owned private company and had so many large lands in Jakarta, Bogor n all over Java. But unfortunately, he had 9 or 10 wives as long as he lived (I don’t know much n I think I should write a Biografi of him since his life was related to bak*ie group –a famous rich family in Indonesia). Well, actually I’m not close to him since he had 20 children n more than 20 grandchildren (and now still increasing). In the rest time of his age, he lived in Ciawi, Bogor, with his final-destination-wife (one of step mothers of my father) in a huge home with a pool inside (still builded at the time but never finished till now). I called him “Eyang Bogor” means a grandfather who lived in Bogor and almost every year in Ied Mubarak, me n my family (my father, mother n brother) visit him there and we gather together with all family including my father’s step brothers n sisters. Really something. When visiting his house, I was in the age of 5-7 years old and in a child perspective, I saw him as a King who is really far from his people (I mean me n my family are only ordinary people because I thought that my family is lil bit different with other family). I had never close to him as same as I close to my grandfather from my mother (a men from a humble and happy family). I always thought that he was a Highness n he loved only great grandchild like my step-cousin who is a half-German and others. Maybe this was just a thought because I really seldom meet him.

As I grew up, I became more understand of my family history and why he had 9/10 wives (the number still being doubted rite now). Shortly, because of his wealth, he got married and divorced as he wanted. My grandmother is the 4th wife and she never knew that he already had a wife before she married him. Well, it was terrible, right? Hmm… another experience might be happen to other wives. I don’t know the whole story but maybe I should do investigation n write the history n family tree if this is really important? The only one who knew the whole story is his driver (an old witness men). After a long long journey and history, like a sinetron (Indonesian drama), after the jealousy, fight, wealth n heritage competition, the family is now united and we became a huge famz. Well, now I’m gonna share the impact of his “bad habit”.

Like a sinetron, I saw his life was really something. Married, divorce and polygamy as he wanted even though he had a great wealth and position but this would cause broken home children and Yes, it happened. Problems happen to his children and I think it is because of broken-home-family effect even though they don’t realize it. Yes, the impact is so deep, into the psychology of the children. That’s why maybe the marriage of his children almost same with him. Hmm.. so sad to face this reality. Father is the leader in a family. He should lead the whole family and educate the children since he is the role-men of his family. Education started from home and it is depend on the parents. Men will be a husband and also a father and women will be a wife and also a mother.

In Islam, men is a single and a women is a nation but without men or father, it is really hard to a women/wife to raise the children. Even though I had seen so many wifehouses who are really struggle to raise their kids without men on their side, but this will give effect to the children, even just a little. Therefore, for me, marriage is not only about love. It is about your future and your history. You will make it with your own hand. And to me, my future is my children. After died, one of the things that can help you in the akhirah is dua of your children. How if your children didn’t educated well and couldn't send you a dua? How if ? it would be so sad.. I saw it by my own-eyes until I am 21 going to 22 this time. That’s why I am as the one of his grandchildren feel that I have this responsibility. I wish God will forgive him if he hurt many women as long as he lived. I send you a Dua, Eyang…

Sst…

M: Pp..Pagi Pak (ketakutan)

P: Lain kali kalo tau terlambat nggak usah masuk!

Intinya..

Well, out of nowhere, entah munculnya sejak kapan, saya berkeinginan skripsi dibawah bimbingan beliau. Singkatnya setelah menghadap beliau, jadilah saya anak angkat pertama. (ini salah satu impian saya yang tercapai di IPB lho.. just as simple like that kan? Hehe)

Disini kami banyaaaak banget dapet pelajaran dan makin mengenal pak Prof. Wuiih.. intinya mah jadi makin ngefens lah ya (baca tulisan saya yang what a professor should do).

Ohh.. senangnyaaa~~ saya makin terharuuu TT. Pak prof yang emang udah malang melintang membimbing berbagai jenis mahasiswa kayaknya udah paham banget tipe2 mahasiswa kayak saya, hehe.. Saya doakeun smoga Ilmu Pak prof bermanfaat sepanjang hayat dikandung badan.. amiin.. doakan saya juga ya semoga bisa lulus dengan baik!! ^___^

BOBO, Harry Potter and Me!

I’d love reading book since I can read (I was about 2 or 3 years old). I’d also love going to my Elementary School library just for borrowing fairy-tale books, Indonesian legend books, Enid Blyton’s novel, etc. I just loved to. I don’t know whether present kids reading books I read or not. I think present children tend to watch TV more than read books. They don’t even know how interesting Indonesian legend’s story! I really like legend and fables due to so much fantasy inside the story n_n. Besides, I like foreign book like Enid Blyton’s novel, his novels are mostly talk about children adventurers and it was so much fun reading it! I had never depend on someone since I child (excluding for taking bath, FYI was always asked my housemaid to accompany and waiting for me when I was taking shower because I was afraid of ghost :P). I could go to library alone just for picking and bringing home the books I want. I think the librarian knew me so well, hehe.. I even oftenly made a new borrowing card because it already full sometimes :P. Indeed, I love books so much.

When visiting a relative’s house at Eid Mubarak on my 2nd year of Elementary school, I found Bobo Magazine (Magazine for Kids) there, I was fall in love with that magazine and didn’t want to go home. My mother told me that she would subscribe it for me so that I allowed her guidance to go home. Since that moment, I subscribed Bobo magazine and really love to read it. For me, it was so fun and much of knowledge in it.

Cover of Bobo Magazine

Even though I had subscribed Regular Bobo Magazine, sometime I also bought Bobo special edition. One of the editions I’d bought was Bobo SMART. This edition revealed in full English. It was also impact me so much so that I become a big fans of Most World Phenomenon which is Harry Potter. Well, it happened on my 6th grade when I was reading an interview article in Bobo SMART. I don’t really remember who was the interviewee but the only I know is the interviewee liked a book titled “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone”. She showed the cover of the book in the magazine. I was so curious of that book. The cover looked so nice, much fantasy, adventures, and really made me more interest. Then, I went to Gramedia Book Store to buy it and became Harry Potter’s fan. I have known Harry Potter Novel since I was in the 6th grade of Elementary School. I liked this book bunches and always had in deep passion to open every next pages.

I recommended this book to my best friend who can speak English fluently since she had ever been lived in Aussie or London (I forgot). She is really smart in English and of course in others subjects too. She wondered about what I recommended to her and then she bought it. She needed only about a day to finish the book whether I needed more days (about 3-5) to read it. She is a genius one I think, till now she is studying in one of Australia University. She became a big fans of Harry Potter and we bought every it’s new released. Then, Harry Potter’s series became more popular since that time and I think this was one of the reasons why the book price also higher anually. Harry Potter became my best friend and he lived in my heart, accompanied me growing up!

Knowing the news that Harry Potter would made into a movie, it made me so much curious at the time. Daniel Radcliffe was chosen to be a Leading Actor in Harry Potter movie.

Cute Daniel Radcliffe at 12 years old :)

As a teenager, I adored him so much because of his beauty. He was really cute and played a good role as Harry Potter. I was become a “Daniel Radcliffe” freak. Fyi, I have ever sent a letter to London (not mail but a real handwriting letter) just only to tell him that I am his big fan, of course I wrote it in my limited English, hahaha… (FYI, I also have written a letter to Hideaki Takizawa, Japanese actor, -but had no reply- LOL). After sending it, I wished I got a reply back for soon. I prayed everyday to get a reply and then, after about 3 months passed, I got a letter, written letter from London sent to my home address! I was so surprised and I told everybody about it. But, unfortunately After opened it, I got only a big photo of Daniel Radcliffe with his autograph. Well, this might not sent by Daniel himself, It might be sent by the management, I thought. That’s OK. Hihihi…

Daniel Radcliffe's photo and autograph sent from London!

Then, Harry Potter’s movies accompanied me in every Holidays due to the release time were properly set during holidays. Harry Potter was growing up with me and with all of children at the time. When he was a teenager, I was also a teenager and the story was about teenager’s life. He grew up more with more mysterious secrets and the story become darker. He became an adult and experienced love story and so did I. actually I have no idea why on earth JK Rowling is really good at making such stories, it kited every edition and you couldn’t guess what would happen in the end!

And now, Harry Potter was no more live. It had been ended after the BIG success of the two last movies. I thanked so much to BOBO magazine for the information of Harry Potter and also JK Rowling, the author for creating such adorable fantasy! ^_^

The Blessed Saint Mary, Exemplary Muslim Woman

Attention please, this article was made for informating and not for debating, just suddenly happened, I want to write about this topic on my (Islamic) perspective. have a nice reading!

I am a muslim and I believe in one true God, believe in Muhammad as the last messenger and also Al-Qur’an as the revelation of God. FYI, even though Al-Qur’an was revealed approximately 1400 years ago but Islam (God’s religion) has been exist since the creation of first human, who is Adam. Islam is worshiping only one God without making an equal to Him. We do believe in scriptures and bible which revealed to prophets before Muhammad and Al-Qur’an is the last book sent by God. Al-Qur’an contains so many chapters which tell us everything about past, present and future. One of my favorite chapters in Al-Quran is chapter 19: Surah Maryam. Let me tell you about this chapter! ^^

Why do I love this chapter much?

First of all, it was started in a one day I saw a video on you tube about Surah Maryam recited by Syeikh Mishary Rashid Alafasy. The video contain of English subtitle and the recitation was very touching! It made a deep impact for me.. Mostly, the chapter tell us about Maryam and Jesus birth’s story. But, I also like another topic in this chapter which are prophet Zakariyya’s story, Abraham’s father rejection of God, the end of days and hereafter. But in this article, I would like to tell you about the most often exalted person who appears inside the chapter.

Then, the question is who is Maryam?

Pic: Mary in an Islamic movie based on Quraanic Verses and Traditions.

Based on Quraanic Version, this film is a beautiful representation of the whole life of Saint Mary. It also portrays the truth loving personalities like Hazrat Zakariya & Saint Mary against the Priest of the Solomon Temple who altered the Religion of God according to their own wishes , the Movie is a Divine Lesson from the Holy Quran.

Maryam is Islamic name of Mary, the mother of Jesus. Maryam means to abide, in other words someone who incessantly worships Allah.. She was born approximately two millennia ago from the Family of Imran, the exalted family by God. She was one of the chosen women on Earth as well as in the Hereafter. Born in Roman-occupied Palestine, she was a Jewess and lived in the Jewish community. Maryam was born at a chaotic time, when the Jews' only hope was their expected Messiah (savior). Unknown to her, Allah had already determined to choose and raise her for this holy duty. She was central to the Israelites' expectations, for she would give birth to Prophet Jesus (‘Isa).

Maryam grew up and educated well by prophet Zakariyya, the sincere and rigtheous men. Maryam, like the rest of her family, was known among her people for her devotion to Allah as well as her religiosity, chastity, and sincerity. She always pray in her sanctuary every day, every night. And Since Zakariyya became her guardian, every time he visited her in the sanctuary, he found food with her. Zakariyya surprised because Maryam had summer food in winter and winter food in summer. He asked: "Maryam, how did you come by this?" She said: "It is from Allah. Allah provides for whoever He wills without any reckoning." (Surah Al 'Imran: 37). Maryam's answer to his question testifies to Allah's grace and providence.

Maryam experienced many miracles throughout her life. One of these was her meeting with Angel Gabriel (Jibril). Once, when she left her family and society and went toward the east, she met Jibril, who appeared to her in the form of a well-built man. Not knowing who this man was, she seeked refuge to Allah. Then, Jibril introduced himself and told about the good news that he brought.

Jibril said: "I am only your Lord's messenger [an angel] so that He can give you a pure boy" (Surah Maryam: 19).

In other chapter

Jibril said: "Maryam, your Lord gives you good news of a Word from Him. His name is the Messiah, 'Isa (Jesus), son of Maryam, of high esteem in this world and the Hereafter, and one of those brought near." (Surah Al 'Imran: 45)

Maryam really surprised and replied: "How can I have a boy when no man has touched me and I am not an unchaste woman?" (Surah Maryam: 20).

Then, Jibril said: "It will be so." Your Lord says: "That is easy for Me. It is so that We can make him a Sign for humanity and a mercy from Us. It is a matter already decreed." (Surah Maryam: 21-22)

By Allah's will, Maryam became pregnant with Prophet Jesus and yet remained a virgin. Her pregnancy was independent of this world's usual cause-and-effect relationship, you know what I mean. The circumstances of his conception were among the features of Prophet Jesus miracles.

Her people were so surprise with her pregnancy and gave her so many criticism, for they could not understand her miraculous situation. Then, she went to distant place to which she retreated due to Allah’s revelation. Allah supported her with His grace and protection and met all of her material and psychological needs during her pregnancy.

In fact, it is very difficult for a woman to give birth, a potentially life-threatening experience, all alone, without medical equipment or a midwife's assistance. Nevertheless, Maryam overcame all of these difficulties by placing her complete trust in Allah. Allah helped her with revelations while she was struggling toward a date tree in the full throes of labor pains. Allah told her not to grieve, that He had placed a stream at her feet, and that she should shake the date tree in order to get freshly ripe dates to eat. He also told her to drink and to delight her eyes. As a result, she gave birth in the best possible circumstances (Maryam : 23-26).

Allah's grace and protection was clearly visible in this situation. In fact, His advice to her has been confirmed by modern science. We now analyze this advice in some detail.

Allah advised Maryam to eat freshly ripened dates. Today, such dates are considered to be food and medicine. Scientists now know that dates contain more than ten considered essential for the human body's well-being and continuing health. You can searched by yourself about this fact though.. All of our current information on dates reveals Allah's infinite wisdom and grace upon Maryam, who, inspired by Allah, satisfied all of her nutritional needs by eating dates and thereby eased her child's birth. (Allah knows best.)

Besides, Allah told Maryam that He had placed a stream by her feet to eat, drink, and delight her eyes. In fact, some modern birth clinics have pools in which the delivery takes place. Water is important during pregnancy for several reasons. At that time, water intake is especially necessary need to give breast-feeding, prevent dehydration, transport food and nutrition to the baby, etc. Modern science shows once more the wisdom in Allah's creation of the stream for Maryam and His advice to eat dates and drink water. All of this is evidence of Allah's infinite knowledge.

Maryam delivered her baby when the Date-tree ripened, that’s why Allah told her to shake the tree which can do easily when the fruit is ripened and eat the date fruit. The ripening of Date-tree in Jerusalem is only happen in summer. Thus, Jesus was born in the summer and not in winter. So another question is why do Christians believe Christmas in December 25th and symbolize his birth by a winter pine-tree? Who was actually born on that day? I’m very sorry, in this section I really have no offense to interrupt or bother Christian’s belief. I just want to share my thought. I think we are both same. Muslims believe that they are believer and others are disbeliever and so do Christians. In Christian perspective, Muslims are disbeliever, only they are believer.

After delivered her baby, Allah revealed His words again and told her to return to her city. Maryam still afraid to come back because she thought that her people would ignore and reject her. But Allah guided her and told her not to grieve.

She brought him to her people, carrying him. They exclaimed: "Maryam! You have done an unthinkable thing! Sister of Harun, your father was not an evil man nor was your mother an unchaste woman!" (Surah Maryam: 27-28)

No doubt, this was a trial for Maryam, for she had to face such accusations despite being a chaste woman who held Allah in the greatest respect and awe. These people ignored her impeccable character and honorable conduct, despite her own reputation and that of her family, and so, as always, she turned toward Allah, and trusted in Him, knowing that He would defend her in the best possible way.

During this trial, Maryam replied nothing if her people asked everything about her pregnancy and baby. She followed Allah’s guidance not to speak to any human being. When people confronted and slandered her, she only pointed to her baby and wished to tell her people “please talk to my baby”, Prophet Jesus, whom Allah said through Jibril: "He will speak to people in the cradle and when fully grown, and will be one of the believers" (Surah Al 'Imran: 46),

Allah showed her people a great miracle by enabling prophet Jesus to speak while he was still a baby in the cradle. Through his words, Allah exonerated his mother Maryam and also introduced prophet Jesus as one of His Prophets sent to the Israelites:

She pointed toward him. They asked: "How can a baby in the cradle speak?" He [Jesus] said: "I am the servant of Allah. He has given me the Book and made me a Prophet. He has made me blessed wherever I am, directed me to perform prayer and give alms [zakat] as long as I live, and to show devotion to my mother. He has not made me insolent or arrogant. Peace be upon me the day I was born and the day I die, and the day I am raised up again alive." That is Jesus, son of Maryam, the Word of Truth about which they are in doubt. (Surah Maryam: 29-34)

This miracle amazed Maryam's people. Maryam is a role model for all Muslim women because she maintained her impeccable character throughout her life. Allah raised her like a lovely plant, to use the Qur'an's expression, and gave her a very important responsibility. Allah chose her, just as He chose 'Imran's family, made her one person in this lineage of the most devout and faithful people, and had her raised by these virtuous people. Allah reveals that Prophet Jesus and Maryam continued to live under His grace after these events. And I do believe that miracles are still happen even in this present time…

That’s why I love this chapter much (still trying to remember all the verses though -Its totally consist of 98 verses-, it is possible I will recite it someday ^^) and also I love Jesus, the son of Mary, the servant of God :)
