The Itch of Happiness

Hello guys, Now I want to share my story which won writing contest at Jakarta Post Public Blog.. Here the stories...

“O ye who believe! Fasting is prescribed to you as it was prescribed to those before you, that ye may (learn) self-restraint, (Fasting) for a fixed number of days; but if any of you is ill, or on a journey, the prescribed number (Should be made up) from days later. For those who can do it (With hardship), is a ransom, the feeding of one that is indigent. But he that will give more, of his own free will,- it is better for him. And it is better for you that ye fast, if ye only knew..”
(QS 2: 183-184)

Those verses reminds me about my memories of Ramadan. Ramadan is the month which was sent down the Qur’an, a book whereof the verses are explained in detail in Arabic, giving good news and admonition as a guide to mankind. It revealed to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) from the Most Beneficent, The Most Merciful.

My Ramadan this year actually was just a little bit different with Ramadan last year. Last year I spent my first and second day of Ramadan in Bangkok during the Symposium I joined. This year I spent much Ramadhan time at home in Jakarta. Why? Yeah, it is because the holiday was quite enough. Ok, now let me tell you about my experiences in Ramadhan…

It had been a long time holiday I think. Well, but it was not so nice for me. Since the firstly days of Ramadan I got sick, maybe because of my immune system didn’t go well. After that, I had lesson for two weeks so I spent two weeks of Ramadan at my campus in Bogor. It was really cheerful days because I had so many days of break-fasting with my friends. Here, we have a tradition to break-fasting together with our closest friends or families. But suddenly, I got an illness again at my last days in Bogor. I didn’t know what kind of disease it is. Actually it was like the same disease that I often get but at the time it was getting worse.

I have an Allergy since a couple years ago and I think it was getting worse at that time. So many days I couldn’t sleep tightly. Usually, if I ate an Allergic drug named “Incidal”, it would getting better but this time it didn’t work. I have eaten so many brands of Allergic drugs, drunk milk and did other ways to reduce this ‘crazy’ itchiness but it still haven’t worked yet. Oh God, what should I do?

Go to the doctor? Of course I would do it but that time was still in Ied Fitr so hospital especially skin disease specialist doctor was also still in holiday. All I could do just waiting, waiting and holding this pain. First day of Ied Fitr? I spent it a lot of time at bed. Sleeping because of the effect of the drugs. Yeah that was bad because I couldn’t go around to my neighborhood’s house for saying hello and apologizing.

Do you know what? It was really getting worse and worse at the day after it. The itchiness I felt was like your body is being bitten by so many little animals which has incisive thing. Finally, my mother took me to a hospital. I was brought to ICU, the doctor seemed surprise when she saw the effect of this disease to my body. Finally, I got an Injection for it and the doctor gave me prescription to heal this pain.

I felt “Yeah.. I can live again!” but… after the prescription from the doctor was all out that ‘crazy’ disease came to me again. Oh my, I really wanted to go to Dermatologist but the holiday was over and I couldn’t escape from my lesson because the rules are so strict in this term. Fortunately, a day was off because of something so I went to Dermatologist and she told me that I got Atopic Dermatitis or Eczema, the skin-illness because of hard Allergy. There are so many reason that cause this illness. She gave me another prescription so I can live my life again from now on. Hahaha…

The lesson I got from this experience is be thankful for your healthy and keep it because being healthy is an expensive gift from God…
